Madame Scribe (“we,” “us,” or “our”) builds a privacy-first audio recording, transcription, and summarization app for macOS. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app and this website handle, how it is used, and the choices available to you. By using Madame Scribe, you agree to the practices described here.

The short version

Madame Scribe is designed to keep your recordings and transcripts on your own Mac. Audio capture, transcription, and summarization run locally using on-device AI. We do not sell your data, and we do not upload your recordings, transcripts, or summaries to our servers unless you explicitly choose to use an optional feature that requires it.

Information processed on your device

The following content is created and stored locally on your Mac and is not transmitted to us:

• Audio you record (microphone and/or system audio).
• Transcripts generated from your recordings.
• Summaries, notes, and other derived text.
• Your in-app settings and preferences.

You control where these files live, when they are deleted, and whether you export or share them.

Information we may collect

• Diagnostics and crash reports. If enabled, the app may send anonymous diagnostic information (such as crash logs, app version, and macOS version) to help us fix bugs and improve stability. These reports do not include your recordings or transcripts.
• Website analytics. This website uses privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic (such as page views and referrers). This data is not used to identify individual visitors.
• Support requests. If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to share (such as your email address and the contents of your message) so we can respond.
• Optional cloud features. If you choose to use a feature that relies on a third-party service (for example, an optional cloud model), the data needed for that feature is sent to that provider only for as long as needed to perform the request. We will make any such feature clearly optional.

How we use information

• To operate, maintain, and improve the app and website.
• To diagnose problems and improve reliability and performance.
• To respond to your support requests and communications.
• To comply with legal obligations.

What we don't do

• We do not sell or rent your personal information.
• We do not use your recordings or transcripts to train our models.
• We do not access the content of your recordings or transcripts stored on your device.

Data retention

Content created in the app stays on your device until you delete it. Diagnostic and analytics data, where collected, is retained only as long as necessary for the purposes described above. Support correspondence is kept as long as needed to assist you and for our records.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information we handle. Because most of your content stays on your Mac, keeping your device secure (with a strong login, disk encryption, and current software) is the most important safeguard.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. Because we hold very little personal data, most requests relate to support correspondence or diagnostics. Contact us to exercise these rights and we will respond as required by applicable law.

Children

Madame Scribe is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be communicated through the app or website where appropriate.
